- Abstract
Eco-friendly modified urea formaldehyde (UF) resin was prepared by co-condensation of cassava starch hydrolysate with formaldehyde, urea and other main raw materials, and its application to MDF was studied. The results showed that the appearance of modified UF resin was light yellow and opaque liquid, the content of free formaldehyde was less than 0.10%, and the storage time was more than 25 days. The results of FT-IR analysis showed that the hydrolysate of cassava starch was involved in the curing reaction of resin, which was mainly connected by ether bonds and methylene bonds, and there was still unhydrolyzed cassava starch in the system. And the results of TG analysis showed that with the increase of the amount of cassava starch hydrolysate, the carbon residual rate of resin increased. When the amount of cassava starch hydrolysate was 12%, the carbon residual rate of resin was 14.08%. When the usage of cassava starch hydrolysate was 12%, the internal bonding strength of MDF was 0.60 MPa, surface bonding strength was 1.12 MPa, the static flexural strength was 27.2 MPa, the elastic modulus was 2 630 MPa, and the formaldehyde emission was only 0.038 mg/m3, which all met the requirements of Chinese standards.
