- Abstract
This article presents a case study on the implementation of a Drama in Education approach in a Spanish course. The main goal of the study is to delimit the specific competencies that the teacher has and those that needs to acquire to develop the approach successfully. Focused observation of practice provides data to specify the training needs and challenges that language teachers face when adopting a Performative Approach (Schewe, 2013). Six sessions were analyzed through: an observation scheme, a research diary, an interview and a post-course questionnaire with the participating teacher. The results show that the teacher needs to master a series of competencies related to the dramatic field in order to carry out the implementation effectively. These skills are included in what we call a performative teacher, a category made up of the specific skills of the language teacher together with those of the actor and the theater teacher.
