- Abstract
This article sheds light on the relationships between women in the same family, more expressively between mother-daughters in their processes of individualization and/or family integration, based on a set of works of art and an anthropological theoretical background on the theme (Lins de Barros, 1987, 2009a, 2009b, 2013; Almeida, 1987; Machado e Lins de Barros, 2009). It only manages to do so in light of the Útera projects by Chilean photographer Catalina Juger and My Birth by American visual artist Carmen Winant. Their images allow us to enter the field of anthropological discussions about families and women, but they also destabilize the very idea of "generation", to think more about the "generational effect" (Attias-Donfut, 2004). For that, I develop the proposal of thinking in "pieces" and "unique piece", inspired by the feature film by Katá Weber, Pieces of Woman (2020). This time, the article focuses on the power of feminine images, in the family and in time, to reflect on generations, body, continuities and discontinuities of worldviews.
