- Abstract
Parents play an important role in their children's career and study choices. The educational background and parenting behavior of parents influence the educational path of their children. Adolescents from academic families are more likely to pursue higher education, while those from non-academic families are less likely to study and have a higher dropout risk. Study advisors can involve parents in the orientation process to help the adolescents. There are good practice approaches in Baden-Württemberg to involve parents, such as information events and digital offerings. Parents should support their children in their study orientation, but also set clear boundaries. Recommendations for universities and study advisors are provided to involve parents.
