- Abstract
The article reports development related to antihypertensive therapies in the U.S. About 95% of patients with high blood pressure have unknown causes while the remaining 5-10 percent can be associated with congenital heart defects, certain cancers or kidney abnormalities. Food and Drug Administration has approved Novartis's Tekturna (aliskiren) as antihypertensive drugs. The number of major pharmaceutical companies investing for the development anihypertensive drugs have declined.
