- Abstract
In order to improve the Chinese engineers understanding of the application prospect of the large LPG mounded bullet and enhance its design and construction capacity, this paper compared the differences between the LPG mounded bullet and the above-ground spherical tank, and compared the applicable conditions for the implementing standards of these two kinds of vessels. In accordance with EEMUA PUBLICATION 190: 2000 Guide for the design, construction and use of mounded horizontal cylindrical vessels for pressurised storage of LPG at ambient temperatures, the detailed design requirements of the sand bed, mound and vessel body of the LPG mounded bullet, as well as the feasibility of construction, non-destructive testing and heat treatment schemes are discussed. The results show that the large LPG mounded bullet has the advantages of being safer, requiring smaller safety distance and higher land utilization efficiency, when compared with the above-ground spherical tank. The recommended design requirements and construction scheme can be used as a guide for the development of similar projects in China.
