The article discusses the delivery of the partially-completed German battlecruiser the "Lützow" to the Soviet Union in 1940 after the international agreement the Nazi-Soviet Pact of 1939. According to the article, the ship was renamed the "Petropavlovsk" by the Soviet Union. It discusses the significance of the sale of the ship in Nazi-Soviet relations, common ground between then-German leader Adolf Hitler and then-Soviet premier Joseph Stalin, and commercial treaties between Germany and the Soviet Union. It also discusses the deterioration of relations between the two countries.
