The article offers perspectives on how the first generation of Russian religious thinkers labeled Modernism in Western thinking. It infers that a modernizing trend and a Neo-Patristic reaction in Orthodox European thought suggests a systematic grouping of these counter-positions around the historical process of Modernity.
