- Title
Managing screen time: how to protect and equip students against distraction.
- Abstract
This article explores the impact of screen time on students' academic performance and well-being. It reveals that many students in OECD countries are distracted by digital devices during math lessons, with varying levels of distraction across countries. The article suggests that moderate use of digital devices for learning activities is associated with higher performance and a stronger sense of belonging at school, while excessive use for leisure activities is linked to lower performance and increased distraction. The type of digital activities, such as playing video games or browsing social networks, also affects academic performance. The article emphasizes the importance of implementing effective strategies to limit distraction in schools and providing teachers with training on teaching with technology.
