- Title
Harmony with Nature and Genetically Modified Seeds: A Contradictory Concept in the United States and Brazil?
- Authors
Leibowitz, Heather
- Abstract
The article demonstrates how a lack of scientifically objective standards has allowed regulatory agencies to circumvent environmentally protective and sustainable policies while looking at the differing regulatory frameworks for Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in the U.S. and the Brazil. It sheds light on the benefits and contribution of agricultural biotechnology while discussing potential risks including economic, environmental and health risks and negative effects associated with it, on the sustainable development. It underlines the problems associated with genetically modified (GM) seeds in the Brazil and the U.S. and analyzes the regulatory system for GMOs in both the countries individually. It also discusses the role and future of GMO science.
