- Abstract
This article explores the complexities of Macedonian language and identity, focusing on the suppression of Macedonian national consciousness by neighboring countries. It includes personal anecdotes and documents from a Greek man who spoke Macedonian and had connections to the Macedonian Patriotic Organization. The author compares two books that provide different perspectives on the origins of the village of Visheni, with one book opposing Macedonian language and identity and the other embracing it. The text also discusses the challenges faced by Macedonians in the region, including occupation during World War Two and the Greek Civil War, and emphasizes the importance of understanding the ethnic and historical dynamics in the region.
