The author shares her experience of working with language professor Christina E. Kramer in conducting research on linguistics. She recognizes the influence of Kramer on his work about comparing closely related languages. She discusses the link of syntactic forms to semantics, pragmatics and intonational tunes. In addition, the author provides tales of discovering microvariation in Balkan and Slavic languages.
