- Abstract
The IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) has established a new Specialist Group called the Aquatic Fungi Specialist Group. This group aims to assess and conserve aquatic fungi, which are a diverse group of fungi that primarily grow and reproduce in freshwater and marine environments. Currently, there is limited knowledge about the diversity and distribution of aquatic fungi, as well as the threats they face. The Specialist Group will collaborate with other fungi Specialist Groups and conservation committees to develop assessment methods and conservation plans for aquatic fungi. Experts in aquatic fungi are encouraged to join this initiative.
