- Title
Herbal Root Canal Irrigants in Endodontics: Something more biocompatible and less harmful.
- Abstract
Irrigation is a key step in Root Canal Treatment, which is performed in order to disinfect the root canal and make it free from microorganisms, with E. faecalis being the most abundantly found pathogenic microbe in the canals. Since long, dental surgeons have made use of chemicals that flush out and wash away the contaminants and the debris produced during the cleaning and shaping of the canals. But in recent years, studies have shown that the chemicals traditionally used for root canal irrigation, produce a number of undesirable effects on the living tissues, which are harmful for both the patient and the dentist.
