Gaius Iulius Caesar Germanicus, a member of the Julius-Claudius Dynasty, known as the third emperor of the Roman Empire, known as "Caligula", was born on August 31, 12 AD, and spent his childhood in the military camps of his father Germanicus. He became the third Emperor of Rome after Tiberius in 37 AD. Caligula, who came to power after the oppressive rule of Tiberius, was loved and happily welcomed by everyone at the beginning of his empire. Later, after an illness he was said to have suffered in the sixth or eighth months of his rule, his personality changed and he became a person known as "crazy", "brutal", "crazy", "monster" in history. As a result of the literature review based on ancient authors, diseases such as epilepsy, lead poisoning, anxiety disorder, neurosyphilis, narcissism, histrionic, antisocial personality disorder were attributed to Caligula. The fact that the emperor experienced some events and illnesses in his life and as a result of this, affected his life and his administration, or was wanted to be perceived as such, is discussed in this article, and it includes the physical and spiritual analysis of Caligula depending on the events he experienced and the situation evaluation of the history written by the historians of the period. This study is discussed in three different parts as Ancient writers, almost all of whom focused on Caligula's bad behavior, views completely against them, and possible diseases that he may have had.
