Research found that cases of dracunculiasis, commonly called Guinea worm, could reach a historic low in 2013. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Xpert Mycobacterium Tuberculosis/Resistance to Rifampicin (MTB/RIF) assay to detect DNA of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex in sputum samples.
