- Abstract
Background: Breast cancer is the uncontrolled growth of a tumor mass in cells of the epithelial tissue of the breast, prevalent in women from 35 years, having as a treatment chemotherapy sometimes associated with radiotherapy and breast surgery, however, chemotherapy acts in a non-specific manner generating changes such as neurotoxicity, caused by the drugs administered. Objective: To compare the Heart Rate Variability among women with breast cancer and healthy women. Method: A cross-sectional, non-randomized, comparative and blind, of quantitative character study, with women between 25 and 75 years, forming a breast cancer group (29), hospitalized at Hospital Ophir Loyola and treated by chemotherapy, and healthy women group (24). The Polar® model RS800cx was used for data collection that occurred in the hospital infirmary, while the healthy ones in the Physiotherapy Outpatient Clinic of the University of the Amazon, both in Belém, Pará, Brazil. Results : The standard deviation of the mean of all normal cardiac intervals, the baseline width of the cardiac interval histogram, the dispersion of the points perpendicular to the line of identity and the dispersion of points along the line of identity showed higher values in the healthy group in relation to the control group. The domain of linear analysis did not have variables with statistical difference. Conclusion: The present study concluded that chemotherapy in women with breast cancer changes the Heart Rate Variability compared to healthy women.
