- Abstract
The article focuses on abnormal leukocyte motility in patients with early-onset periodontitis. Early-onset periodontitis is highly destructive to the tissues around the teeth is seen in some young children, teenagers and young adults. There are severe forms of periodontitis including perpubertal, juvenile and rapid progressive periodontitis. There is suppressed leukocyte chemotaxis in patients with early-onset periodontitis. It is suggested that suppressed neutrophil and monocyte functions such as chemotactic responsiveness may undergo a cyclic variation under normal circumstances that the observed abnormality of cells from periodontitis patients may be a significant alteration in the frequency or enhancement of the amplitude of this phenomenon rather than suppressed responsiveness.
