- Abstract
End catching of fabric in rapier looms is an important process in textile manufacturing. In this article, different methods of rapier looms end catching are classified, and their advantages and disadvantages are discussed. The mechanisms and fundamentals of end catching are then thoroughly explained. To improve quality and efficiency, key manufacturing process and design factors are discussed, including selvage catching, reeding, healding, selvage yarn counting, selvage width determination, and weave design. Moreover, the basic techniques commonly encountered in rapier looms equipment setup, such as weaving point adjustment, warp density determination and warp yarn counting, are also discussed. Several examples are given to illustrate the design mechanism and production of representative fabrics, such as valitin, single-sided gabardine, double-sided serge and polyamide yarns.
