- Abstract
A delayed SIR epidemicmodel with nonlinear incidence rate is investigated. This incidence rate describes the psychological effect of certain serious diseaseson the community when the number of infectives is getting larger. It is shown that the basic reproductive number R0 characterizes the disease transmission dynamics: if R0 <1, there exists only the disease-free equilibrium which is globally asymptotically stable; and if R0 > 1 , then there is a disease endemic equilibrium and the disease persists. By means of Lyapunov functional technique, sufficient conditions are obtained for the global as- ymptotic stability of the endemic equilibrium.
