- Abstract
The samples sediments were collected at 11 sites along the nervion estuary (Bilbao- Spain Country) and analysed by ICP-MS Elan 6000 after microwave mineralisation. The objective of this research was to determine the level of metals in estuarine sediments and to assess the degree of heavy metals contamination. The determination of metals concentration was ranged from 8.8 to 139 μg g-1 (As), 0.03 to 127 μg g-1 (Cd), 5.8 to 23.8 μg g-1 (Co), 12.3 to 1174 μg g-1 (Cr), 9.5 to 371 μg g-1 (Cu), 129 to 1203 μg g-1 (Mn), 13.3 to 313 μg g-1 (Ni), 25.5 to 1064 μg g-1 (Pb), 6 to 14.3 μg g-1 (Sb), 0.19 to 5.3 μg g-1 (Se), 1.13 to 288 μg g-1 (Sn) and 44.8 to 3461 μg g-1 (Zn). The occurrence of enhanced concentration of metals in the studied estuary sediments of Nervion is a clear indication of anthropogenic pollution in station S242 and S243.
