- Title
The use of drawing in architectural design: some recent experiences from UK practice.
- Authors
Edwards, Brian
- Abstract
The article investigates the role of drawing in architectural design in the age of computer-aided designs (CAD) and modern model-making. Ten architects were interviewed regarding their use of freehand drawing in design and its interspersion with CAD. All of them belong to the pre-CAD generation although they also employ the technology. They use sketches during the initial design stage and further modifications while CAD is used in draughting and design refinement. Three architects consider CAD as a hindrance to architectural exploration.
