- Abstract
The article examines changes and health of theatre in the U.S. It mentions the growth of live theatre amid the flourish of film, television and Internet, progress made by the industry such as the emergence of touring houses performing Broadway plays, presence of outdoor Shakespeare Festivals and increase in annual ticket income, and some changes including the shift away from realistic plays, the emergence of women and African American playwrights and use of sound technologies in musicals.
