- Abstract
The present study aims to analyze in a group of competitive men and women judokas of category cadet included in the 2002 sub-17 Cadet National Ranking the following objectives: 1) To describe the personality characteristics of the two groups through the subdimensions of the personality questionnaire BFQ; 2) To test the presence of relationship between personality subdimensions and sporting performance; 3) To evaluate the predictive ability of the subdimensions; 4) To make comparisons in correlational and predictive levels between dimensional (Ruiz, 2007) and subdimensional outcomes in the judokas sample. Results show important relations between the personality subdimensions and sporting performance. In the group of women cadets regression models were statistically significant (up to 28.1% of variance explained with the subdimension Perseverance). Despite of the high convergence between results obtained with dimensions and subdimensions, there are differences which point out to the need of taking into account subdimensions when studying the prediction of sporting performance, as they provide differential and complementary information. This thought should be especially valid for the cadet women, as for the group of cadet men, only an approximation to statistical significance (p<0,10) is obtained in the correlational and predictive analyses.
