- Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the recognition levels of the visual models of identities of the ninth grade students and the relations between these levels and students' characteristics. This study attempted to determine the differences among recognition levels of the visual models of identities and if these levels change according to the students' characteristics like gender, interest in geometry, mathematical success, and mathematical attitude. The sample of the study consists of 389 ninth grade students selected randomly from high schools in Afyon, Antalya, Aydin, Hatay, Izmir, Konya, Kahramanmaras ve Tekirdag. Data were collected by "Identity Test" and Baykul's (1990) "Mathematics Attitude Scale". Frequency tables, t-test and analysis of variance were employed to analyze data. The results of the study indicated that there were differences in recognition levels of the visual models of identities depending on students' all characteristics. Finally suggestions were included for learning and teaching identities in high schools.
