Josephine Baker's Hungry Heart.
- Authors
STRONG, LESTER
- Abstract
The article focuses on the personal life and career of Josephine Baker. Baker was an African-American performer who became famous for her strip tease show La Revue Nègre, which opened at the Parisian Théâtre des Champs-Élysées on October 25, 1925. The article discusses how French audiences delighted in viewing Baker, precisely because she was an African-American woman, as someone who projected an "intense sexuality." The author describes how Baker had both many husbands and relationships with women; due to the demands of her career, Baker was more public about the relationships she had with men.
