The article discusses the attempted assassination of Queen Victoria of Great Britain by an unemployed stage carpenter named John Francis on May 29, 1842. Topics explored include the way the stammer of wood engraver George Pearson prevented him to alert the authorities about the assassination attempt which he witnessed, the apprehension of Francis in his second attempt to kill the Queen, and the vocal disabilities that have been considered a problem during the Victorian period.
