- Abstract
Water is generally used as coolant in cutting process with diamond saw blades. The purpose of the application of cutting fluids in marble cutting process is to reduce the cutting temperature and to remove the marble chip from the cutting zone. Therefore the efficiency and life of the diamond segment increases. In this study, the effect of boron oil coolant on the sawing performance was investigated for the first time. The computer control block cutting machine was used in the cutting tests. Cutting forces, noise, power consumption, specific energy and the wear of the diamond segment were determined in the study. The reaction forces (Fx, Fy and Fz) were measured by using piezoelectric dynamometer attached on the marble test machine. The wear of the diamond segment was also measured using KEYENCE laser equipment. There is no study in the literature in which the role of the boron oil coolant in the marble cutting process. The objective of the present work, therefore to investigate whether the boron oil coolant could be alternative coolant in the marble cutting industry. Experimental results show that the using of the boron-oil coolant results in a decrease in power consumption, specific energy and specific wear of the diamond segment.
