- Abstract
A paper which examines the construction of the U.S. West as a sociogeographical and symbolic space in the Polish language adaptation of Mayne Reid's "The Headless Horseman," by Jaroslaw Iwaszkiewicz, is presented. Topics covered include popularity of 19th century adventure stories set in the U.S. West among Poles, use of the narrative formula of the Western by Iwaszkiewicz in the adaptation and the elements added by Iwaszkiewicz to make the adaptation immediately recognizable to the Poles.
