- Abstract
A critique of the short story "The Affair at Grover Station" by Willa Cather is presented. Particular focus is given to the story's depiction of Chinese ethnicity in the U.S., including the association of Chinese American people with murder, social marginality and stealthiness. The portrayal of the relationship between the Chinese and U.S. railroads within the story is discussed. The role that memory plays in Americans' conception of the Chinese, as depicted within the story, is also discussed.
