- Abstract
This study determined the effect of water storage and thermocycling on the elasticity and dimensional stability of thermoplastic materials. Six thermoplastic materials were investigated. Compared with the dry stored control group, thermocycling caused a significant decrease in the modulus of elasticity and retentive forces in almost all tested materials. The dimensional stability in all materials was affected by the different storing conditions. Water incubation caused an increased specimen circumference, and subsequent thermocycling decreased the circumference. This study illustrates how water infiltration into the polymer structure of the material and changing temperature conditions affect the stability of thermoplastic appliances.
