- Abstract
The article discusses a research on the role of cannabinoids in the treatment of liver cirrhosis. It references a study by F. Teixeira-Clerc and colleagues in this same issue. It has been observed that cannabinoid receptors were strongly induced in fibrogenic cells such as the stellate cell of the cirrhotic liver and in stellate cells of mice treated with carbon tetrachloride. Fibrosis was attenuated by pharmacological blockade or genetic ablation of the cannabinoid receptor.
