- Authors
Rodney, G.; Raju, P. K. B. C.; Brull, S. J.
- Abstract
This article discusses the importance of quantitative neuromuscular monitoring in anesthesia practice. It highlights the historical development of neuromuscular blocking drugs and the introduction of sugammadex, which offers the potential for antagonism of neuromuscular block. The article emphasizes the dangers of residual neuromuscular block, including prolonged recovery and postoperative complications. It also addresses the barriers to adopting quantitative monitoring, such as cost and lack of training. The authors argue that the use of quantitative monitoring is essential for optimizing neuromuscular block management and improving patient outcomes.
