A biography of Laura Belle Downey Bartlett, a translator and stage producer, is presented. She was born in 1851 in Missouri and moved with her family to the Nisqually plain in Oregon. She learned Chinook Jargon from Pacific Northwest Indians as a child and used her knowledge to translate book, songs, and plays. She also had a passion for music and produced the musical "Wah-Mah-Whah-Lah."
