- Abstract
Experimental animal models are essential tools for the preclinical testing of novel therapeutic in vivo. In this review we present two methodological designs to study chemoprevention and anticarcinogenesis. First we describe the use of the Azoxymethane (AOM)-induced preneoplastic lesions also known as Aberrant Crypt Foci (ACF) and we propose a protocol to study the prevention of the formation of this colonic dysplasia that has been generally accepted as precancerous lesions in view of its histopathological characteristic as well as its genetic, epigenetic, biochemical and inmunohistochemical alterations. Second, we present a protocol to study chemoprevention of tumor progression in sporadic and inflammation-conducted tumor progression induced by Sodium Sulphate Dextran (DSS). The importance of these methodologies in studies of chemoprevention and anticarcinogenesis is the use of medicinal plants.
