This work is divided in two parts. On the first part the subject of discussion is the implementation and construction of the royal theatres in Portugal during the reigning period of king José I and D. Maria I, as manifestations of artistic and political power. On the second part of this study, we present the existent scenographical corpus and a theorization concerning theatrical machinery as a tool of the Royal authority and puissance.
