- Abstract
This article discusses the concept of posttraumatic growth (PTG) and its potential for supporting residents in the aftermath of medical errors. It highlights the emotional distress experienced by resident physicians following an error, which can lead to burnout and negatively impact their training and patient care. The article suggests strategies for supporting residents after an error, including the formalization of a peer response network, restructuring morbidity and mortality conferences, developing medicolegal curricula, and teaching error disclosure. The goal is to create a growth culture that promotes learning and resilience among residents in emergency medicine.
