Pharmacy agreements 2024: are they a good deal for the profession?
- Abstract
Two new pharmacy agreements have been signed in Australia to transform the pharmacy profession. The Eighth Community Pharmacy Agreement (8CPA) and the Strategic Agreement on Pharmacist Professional Standards aim to improve access to medicines and reduce out-of-pocket expenses. The 8CPA provides funding for community pharmacies and various pharmacy services, while the Strategic Agreement ensures that standards governing pharmacists remain up to date. The agreements have been praised for offering cheaper medicines and increased pharmacy services, although there is some criticism regarding the phasing out of the dollar discount on PBS listed products. Overall, the agreements are seen as a positive step towards expanding the scope of practice for pharmacists and improving health outcomes for Australians.
