- Title
CROWLAND ABBEY AND THE PROVENANCE OF ORDERIC VITALIS'S SCANDINAVIAN AND SCOTTISH MATERIAL.
- Authors
MARRITT, STEPHEN
- Abstract
This article reports on the stories in Orderic Vitalis' "Historica Ecclesiastica." The sources of the material are both Scottish and Scandinavian, which depicts the close ties between the two regions and the familial relations that came of it. There are also some stories that are found in no other literature, and others that are repeated almost verbatim by other authors. The author states that the influence of the book came from Oderic's visit to Crowland Abbey in Lincolnshire.
