- Title
THOMAS DE QUINCEY AND 'THE DITCH-WATER SCHOOL' OF POETRY.
- Authors
Groves, David
- Abstract
The article focuses on author Thomas De Quincey's association with the journal "Edinburgh Evening Post." Stuart Tave in his book "New Essays by De Quincey" suggests that De Quincey's association with the "Post" had ceased by the year 1829. Tave's reasons for this belief is that De Quincy left Edinburgh on June 12, 1829. However, he maintained his literary connections in Edinburgh, and returned to that city sometime during the first half of 1830. Although De Quincey had written many political articles for the "Post," most of its book reviews were composed by a Church of Scotland minister named Andrew Crichton. Also, the article discusses the essay "The Ditch-Water School of Poetry," by De Quincey.
