- Title
The Ending of Brand.
- Authors
Reinert, Otto
- Abstract
The article presents an analysis of the ending of the 19th-century Scandinavian tragedy "Brand," by Henrik Ibsen. Focus is given to the literary problems which arise surrounding the fate of the main character, since the narrative does not explicitly describe whether Brand is saved or damned for his sins. Various possible thematic and theological interpretations of Brand's eschatological fate are explored in turn.
