- Authors
Law, Jennie. S.; McCoy, Maureen; Olshewsky, Beth; Semifero, Angela
- Abstract
The article explores the Amelia Bloomer Project, named after the American women's rights champion Amelia Jenks Bloomer, which is designed to recommend children's literature that promotes high quality young adult books with significant feminist principles. It reports that the project selects books to be part of the list based on content rather than stylistic aspects. The list's goals are to help girls recognize systematic sexism, overcome issues of body image, and promote the image of brave and confident females. The article also describes the nomination and selection process, the American Library Association (ALA) Feminist Task Force, and encourages libraries to support and host feminist programs.
