The article offers a look at the church and the people in lowland rural Scotland during the late nineteenth century. Information on the sociology of religious adherence and levels of church attendance as concerns of churchmen is presented. The association of the study of the sociology of adherence with the Presbyterian denominations in urban areas is also discussed.
