- Title
Reading and Reasoning in ISCS Classes.
- Authors
Howe, Ann C.; Early, Margaret
- Abstract
The article investigates the reading and logical thinking abilities of average and below-average students in urban high schools adopting the Intermediate Sciences Curriculum Study (ISCS) program in the U.S. A chart is also presented depicting group performances on four tests which are the standard reading, informal reading, logical thinking, and science achievement. The authors conclude that ISCS teachers should retain the informal atmosphere, the opportunity for students to work at various rates within limits, and the emphasis on acquiring responsibility and independence. In addition, they are also advised to create instructional decisions within the framework, on the basis of their own past experience, taking into account what they believe are the needs of students.
