- Title
Inequality in Health Insurance Reform: Are the Elderly More At Risk?
- Authors
Phillips, Charles R.; Schuler, Drue K.; Jacobs, Elgene W.
- Abstract
The article presents an exploration into the consequences of health insurance reform on elderly prescription buyers. Statistics and projections are given outlining rising health care costs and their strain on the federal finances within the United States. Popular reform plans are discussed but the unintended consequences on the older population segments are analyzed. Prescription drug needs and purchasing behaviors in the elderly are described. It is suggested that both current and multiple proposed reforms still generate higher costs for medical care for the elderly and that specific policies must be addressed to correct this imbalance.
