- Abstract
Introduction: For some years now, there has been a low demand for primary care services by male users, whose trends may vary depending on several factors, including demographic characteristics, patterns of seeking health care and the prevalence of diseases in different population groups. Objective: To verify the prevalence of outpatient care by sex, in primary care, in the state of Mato Grosso from 2016 to 2023. Methodology: This is an observational, analytical, cross-sectional study, with data collected from the Production Information System Outpatient clinic of the Unified Health System (SIA/SUS), in the state of Mato Grosso, from 2016 to 2023. Results: There were a total of 3412128 consultations, of which 1238917 (36%) were male and 2173211 (64%) in females, with a significant increasing trend in incidence rates for both sexes, mainly from the year 2022. The macro-regions of the state of Mato Grosso that had the highest attendance for outpatient procedures were the Central-Northwest (53.48%), with a greater demand by males for the use of services for clinical procedures in the Eastern region (8.8 times) and actions for health promotion and prevention in the Eastern region (4.34 times), when compared to male feminine. There was a greater concentration of searches for outpatient health promotion and prevention procedures in the North region, among males aged between 20 and 69 years old, followed by the East and Central-Northwest regions. Conclusion: The results of this study provide valuable information about outpatient care seeking patterns in Mato Grosso, highlighting significant gender disparities and complex temporal trends in incidence and prevalence rates. Understanding these patterns is essential to inform public health policies and targeted intervention strategies aimed at improving equitable access to health services and optimizing care provided to the population.
