- Abstract
This paper offers a systematic review of the literature on the influence of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) on the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Both CVDs and CKD are significant public health concerns worldwide, exhibiting an increasing prevalence across many populations. These conditions often coexist in a high number of patients, and they mutually exacerbate each other. Based on a detailed examination of published studies, it was found that CVDs play a pivotal role in accelerating the progression of CKD. Conversely, the existence of CKD heightens the risk of CVDs, thereby creating a vicious cycle which increases morbidity and mortality. The necessity of more effective intervention strategies to minimize the impact of CVDs on the progression of CKD is underscored, aiming to enhance patients' quality of life and alleviate the global burden of these chronic conditions.
