- Abstract
The study aimed to highlight the benefits and restrictions associated with the measurement of the Economic Value Added (EVA) within a rural credit union. Therefore, it was utilized descriptive methodology, with qualitative approach an in the case study format. As the result, it was found that such indicator can be utilized in this entrepreneurial reality, but with necessary adjustments (like the case of reversal of provision for loss) and with the consideration that this kind of enterprises must be analyzed in a distinct form about the non-financial companies. This is relevant because its structure capital is basically made for costly sources of capital, against manufacturing or service company, that can count on with expressively participation of sources from suppliers (that it used to be considered a not costly origin of invested capital in these organizations). Besides, the determination of a liquidity level to remain the security of cooperative members also contribute to the results of the cooperative in terms that the EVA is negative, corroborating what was calculated in other researches. It was found, yet, that politic changes in the liquidity of this cooperative allowed available bigger percentages of values of their deposits to allocate in the form of loans to the membership, improving the economic performance of the entity.
