- Abstract
The pandemic is accompanied by multiple stresses and challenges for adolescents, which can have an impact on both the psychological and physical well-being of adolescents and young adults. While ordered measures to curb the covid 19 pandemic sometimes massively restrict adolescents’ education, social interactions, agency and leisure time activities, digital gaming worlds entice them with diverse spaces for experience and interaction. Power to act, digital relationship building and escapism can, especially in times of the pandemic, represent possible relief for those who play. On the other hand, they can only compensate for the lack of physical interpersonal relationships to a limited extent. This article focuses on the initial findings of the qualitative-empirical study »Ich Zocke«, in which a total of 15 gamers from Austria and Germany talked about their experience of the pandemic in terms of perceived stress, challenges and their experience of digital gaming.
