- Abstract
To investigate the feeding value of early-sprouted wheat (ESW, sprouting rate 40%), this study selected ESW and unsprouted wheat (USW) samples from the summer harvest of 2023 in Zhumadian, Henan Province, China. The nutritional values were measured. In addition, 128 growing pigs "Duroc×Landrace×Large White" with an initial weight of (60.02±2.69) kg and 72 finishing pigs "Duroc×Landrace×Large White" with an initial weight of (94.41±3.00) kg were selected. The control group was fed a corn-wheat-soybean meal-based diet, while the experimental group's diet replaced 30% of the wheat in the control diet with ESW for a period of 30 days to measure growth performance. The results showed that compared to USW, the crude protein content in ESW increased by 1.67 percentage points, total amino acids by 1.53 percentage points, acid detergent fiber by 0.55 percentage points, while starch content decreased by 0.77 percentage points, and total energy increased by 0.11 MJ/kg. The differences in crude fiber, crude ash, and other indicators were less than 0.5 percentage points. The vomitoxin content was (339±269) mg/kg, meeting health standards. Additionally, replacing 30% of the USW in the feed of growth-finishing pigs with ESW significantly reduced the hardness of the pellets (P<0.05) after pelleting. Animal trials indicated that replacing 30% of the USW with ESW in the diets had no significant effect on the productive performance of growing and fattening pigs (P>0.05). In conclusion, ESW has minimal impact on its nutrient content, and adding 30% ESW to the diet does not affect the growth performance of growth-finishing pigs. However, attention must be given to the hardness of the product
